1. Seema Biswas
Hailing from Nalbari district of Assam, this famous artiste, theatre personality, and prominent figure in the showbiz industry shot into prominence with her epic role as the Bandit Queen Phoolan Devi in Shekhar Kapur’s film “Bandit Queen (1994)”. Seema Biswas made Assam proud with her spectacular acting and is now a respectable name in Bollywood who has essayed some of the strongest characters in almost all her films and has the reputation of picturing herself as the strong woman of the modern era in most of her movies.
Seema Biswas recently essayed the role of a village school’s headmistress and actor Arjun Kapoor’s mother in the film “Half Girlfriend (2017)”. Coming from a tiny village in Goalpara district of Assam, Adil Hussain has worked extremely hard to etch his name in the showbiz industry and has worked over 50 movies combining both Bollywood and Hollywood. Adil Husain started his career as a stand-up comedian and working in the state’s local mobile theatre groups before stepping into the big world of Bollywood without any source. Assam is proud to have such a valuable talent who is an inspiration for the upcoming generation.
3. Dipannita Sharma
Born and brought up in the Oil India Limited colony town of Duliajan in Dibrugarh district, this Assamese damsel came into the limelight when she reached the top final five of Miss India in the 1998 contest. For five years she has been the worldwide face for Breguet watches & jewelry, after which she continued with her modeling assignments, walking the ramp for top designers and hosting various TV shows.
This pretty face from Assam soon got noticed by Bollywood and made her first debut with the 2002 Bollywood film “16 December”. After which Dipannita kept doing cameo roles in movies like “Dil Vil Pyar Vyar”, “My brother Nikhil” etc. and the last appearance on the big screen was for the Assamese movie-“Xhoixobote Dhemailite (2017)” which was her first Assamese movie.
4. Plabita Borthakur-One of the most loved and appreciated Assamese actors in Bollywood
Do you remember this petite younger sister of Anushka Sharma from the film “Pk”? If yes, then you have watched the movie very attentively, but if not then you better watch it again. Plabita Borthakur is a singer, classical singer, and actor hailing from Kamrup district of Assam who was born and brought up in the Oil India company colony town of Duliajan in Dibrugarh district.
Plabita has already made her screen presence felt by her numerous TV commercials and is currently being seen playing the main protagonist in the much spoken about Bollywood movie “Lipstick under my burkha (2006)”.
