AIZAWL/ SILCHAR/ GUWAHATI :Union Home Minister of India Mr. Amit Shah, assures necessary steps against the Assam-Mizoram border clash recently. The Union Minister has called and assured the Chief Minister of Mizoram Mr. Zoramthanga that necessary steps would be taken to maintain the cordial relations between the two Northeastern states.
The recent tension between the two states which occurred at Kolasib district of Mizoram and Cachar district of Assam turned violent and there were retaliations from both end. Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal also telephoned Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and spoke to him on the border incident and stressed on the need to take productive measures and joint efforts to address the border issues.
Kolasib district deputy commissioner H Lalthlangliana told PTI that a large number of Vairengte residents assembled when some people from Assam, armed with sticks and dao (Tribal sword), pelted stones at a group near the auto-rickshaw stand on the outskirts of the border village on Saturday evening. Mr. H Lalthlangliana also mentioned that the irate mob from Vairengte retaliated and set on fire about 20 temporary bamboo huts and stalls built along the national highway by residents of Lailapur despite a prohibitory order being in place.
The Union Ministry is looking into the matter closely and assures a much swifter solution in the coming days.
