Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal pays homage to India’s Hockey Great Major Dhyanchand on his Birth Anniversary of the international legend.
Major Dhyanchand was an Indian Hockey Player who was widely regarded as the greatest hockey player in the history of the sport.
During his time India dominated the World Hockey when India won 3 consecutive Olympic Gold Medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936.
Dhyanchand was known for his extraordinary goal-scoring power. He scored whopping 570 goals in 185 matches according to his autobiography, Goal. He was certainly a “Goal Machine”.
On the occasion of National Sports day, Sarbananda Sonowal said “our aim is to make Guwahati, the ‘Sports Capital of India’.”
He also said that “we hosted many international sports events in Assam in the recent past.”
The Chief Minister of Assam said “I am delighted to hear that the Sports Authority of Assam is organizing a webinar to discuss on development of sports in Assam. I hope this discussion will be meaningful and will definitely give us new zeal and roadmap for the future growth of sports in Assam.”
