Lock down imposed in Simaluguri for one week

Lakhimpur, 22nd August: District administration announced one week of lockdown in Simaluguri, Lakhimpur area after a surge in COVID cases. Many have been affected by a coronavirus in the area following which the decision for the lockdown was taken.

At present Lakhimpur has registered 131 active cases with 1135 recovered. No deaths have been reported in the area so far.

Meanwhile, the overall Covid-19 tally now stands at 87,908 as 1,856 fresh cases were added in the last 24 hours.

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet that six people died of the virus.

Most of the deceased have comorbidities and they were in the age group ranging between 43 and 57 years. Minister Sarma said the fresh cases were detected after examination of 36,180 samples.
