Non cooperation of COVID patients in Tripura

Director of Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department, Radha Debbarma on Sunday reacted over the improper behaviour with West Tripura District Health Surveillance Officer Sangita Chakraborty on Friday. She said that they would be lodging an FIR against this act after the health directorate officials scrutinize the video footage of the incident. She also added that Dr. Chakraborty is diligently taking care of COVID-19 and other patients.

Dr. Chakraborty said she was abused and spat at by some patients who were being treated at one of the  Covid care centre in Tripura , when she went there on Friday to admit five women who have undergone caesarian operations at Tripura Medical College on Thursday and gave birth to babies. When they were tested COVID-19 positive, they were shifted to the Covid care centre. Accompanying them were a health department team and police personnels. “When we tried to admit them, a group of men and women tried to sabotage the process claiming there were no vacant beds,” she said.

“When they were requested by other doctors and nurses to return to their beds, some of them started using filthy languages, spat at me and threatened to touch me and infect me with coronavirus”, Dr Chakraborty said.

Concerning the incident, All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association (ATGDA) general secretary Rajesh Choudhury informed that they have raised the issue to the higher authorities and said that they would take appropriate legal steps if they fail to take any action against this unacceptable act so that others do not behave this way again with health officials.
