Tezpur, Assam bags best City in NorthEast award at the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020’ awards

On 20th of August 2020, an online Award Ceremony was arranged by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the “Swachh Mahotsav” of Swachh Survekshan 2020 Program. Tezpur district of Assam was awarded as the best city in Citizens feedback for Population between of 50,000 to 1 lakh. The online award session was headed by the Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Mr. Durga Shankar Mishra from New Delhi. In the Northeast Zone Tezpur was ranked 2nd out of 13 participating districts and in the state rank as well Tezpur stands out as 2nd out of 10 participants.

In the NorthEast zone, the top 3 rankings are shared by Jorhat district leading the way, followed by Tezpur on second and Bongaigaon on third. Here is a Zonal Ranking list (Cities 50k to 1L) in the Northeast:

Swachh Survekshan was introduced by the government with the objective of generating large-scale citizen participation in the Mission, along with inculcating a spirit of healthy competition among cities towards becoming India’s cleanest cities.

The ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020’ was completed in 28 days. It saw registration of 1.7 crore citizens on Swachhata App, over 11 crore impressions on social media, more than 5.5 lakh sanitary workers linked to social welfare schemes and over 84,000 informal waste-pickers integrated into the mainstream.
