On 10-10-2020 Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Government of India in a joint operation  with the Assam Forest Department seizes various  #preserved #snakes, #lizards , #frogs, #Burmese #Python, #Cobra, #Krait, #Rat-snake, #Keel-backs and so on in Guwahati. Now all these wildlife were seized form a well known Reptile researcher Dr. Jayaditya Purkayastha, at Lachit Nagar, Guwahati, Assam. Dr. Purkayastha kept these wildlife carcasses in jars and buckets which includes various species protected by the Wildlife protection Act of 1972.

Dr. Purkayastha also flourished some documents for the possession but it was not accepted as a valid permit by the investigating agencies

The Assam Forest Department has registered a case under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 against the person and also trying to find more links to the incident. A lot of animals and lizards and reptiles are trafficked all around Northeast of India and it is very surprising to find all these wildlife with a reptile researcher. This has raised a lot of questions in the wildlife conservation community and further more investigation is underway.
